We spent a lot of time driving around on our small scooter. Jokes about chickens crossing roads suddenly made sense. I had to stay alert when driving. One time, a wild piglet ran squealing across the road in front of us, and then collapsed in a heap as its little legs gave out. The scooter we were on had squishy brakes and I was taking desperate evasive action. Fortunately, it managed to recover and get out of our way. Still, it was enough to increase our pulse! (And amuse the locals who were watching the tourists freaking out.)

We got a little lost looking for the beginning of a hiking trail, and ended up on someone's driveway. They didn't seem too worried, but we had to make our way back past the "guard steers".

There were crops of mangoes, bananas arrow root, and all sorts of yummy tropical things. The terraced taro fields on Rarotonga really intigued me though. They were set up on multiple levels so that the water from one taro pond would run down to the next.
